What if I told you there’s a place where you can find
pleasures forevermore? Would you want to
know where it is and how to get there?
If you do, check out what the Psalmist says:
“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence
there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Ps 16:11)
It sure looks like the place is at God’s right hand! Yet, there’s another interesting dynamic to
this; that place is occupied. See for
yourself:
“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things
that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” (Col 3:1)
“That he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead
and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,” (Eph 1:20)
“But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right
hand of the power of God.” (Luke 22:69)
“He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact
imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his
power. After making purification for
sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” (Heb 1:3)
“But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice
for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,” (Heb 10:12)
“Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith,
who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame,
and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Heb 12:2)
Yep, that place is occupied by Jesus who is seated at God’s
right hand. So what gives?
Well, I’m thinking that the Psalmist may have been, under
the direction of the Holy Spirit, referring to a person when he wrote “at your
right hand are pleasures forevermore”.
Furthermore, while the Psalmist may not have known who that person was
at the time, the other verses above do clarify that the person who sits at God’s
right hand is Jesus.
Thus, it is not unreasonable at all to come to the conclusion that the person of Jesus is the pleasures forevermore that we need.
